DigiMaTRIA presented at Portugal Steel ISEP 2026
On 23 September 2026, the DigiMaTRIA project was represented at Portugal Steel ISEP 2026, held at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), through the participation of Rúben Silva, from GARCIA GARCIA and coordinator of the DigiMaTRIA project. The seminar, organised by ISEP in partnership with CMM – Portuguese Association for Steel and Composite Construction, focused on “Inspection and Maintenance of Steel Structures: Adapting to the Challenges of Climate Change”, bringing together experts from industry and academia to discuss current challenges in the inspection, maintenance and management of built assets.

During the presentation “DigiMaTRIA – Digital Maintenance of Large-Scale Industrial Buildings”, Rúben Silva presented the project’s main developments and its approach to the digitalisation of inspection and maintenance processes for industrial building envelopes. The presentation highlighted the integration of several technologies, including UAV-based inspection, IoT sensing, Artificial Intelligence, BIM and Digital Twins, showing how data collected from physical assets can be incorporated into a digital workflow to identify and locate anomalies and support maintenance decision-making.
Particular emphasis was placed on interoperability and the integration of BIM models with inspection and monitoring data within the Digital Twin, supporting the transition from predominantly reactive maintenance towards a more digital, preventive and progressively predictive approach.
Participation in Portugal Steel ISEP 2026 provided an important opportunity to share the work being developed by the DigiMaTRIA consortium, strengthen knowledge transfer between research and industry, and discuss the role of digital technologies in the future of industrial building maintenance.
